  • Multi-Faith and Festivals

Our school community is full of faith, with a significant percentage of families who are active members of a faith community. As well as many practising Christians, we also have many Muslim, Sikh, and Hindu families as part of our school community. Close links to local places of worship, for example Salisbury Mosque, enhance our pupil's understanding of the faith of others as well as their own.

As part of our Christian Distinctiveness it has been vital to ensure that we are a community united by our status as believers, no matter what faith we have. Through the careful teaching of Spiritual Development and our shared Christian Values, we can ensure that our Church School is invitational, inspirational and inclusive without losing the Christian Distinctiveness that makes us so special.

Our acts of worship are uniquely Christian, including regular celebrations of important Christian holidays. However, as part of our RE and Personal Development Curricula, we also explore and enjoy a range of different faiths and festivals across the calendar year. These are often led by our pupils and can help us make powerful inter-faith links.

    Here are some examples:

    Holi

We spent an afternoon learning all about Holi and applying the messages of light defeating darkness, new life and spring colours to festivals we already knew about.

The final activity for the afternoon was a huge colour party on the playground to replicate the similar events happening all around the world.

    Ramadan and Eid

A group of Year 5 pupils requested to lead a school assembly, teaching their peers about Ramadan and their upcoming Eid celebrations. They wrote the assembly independently, including lots of fascinating detail. We then invited the whole school and their families to come and watch them teach their peers about their faith.

    Lunar New Year

We celebrated Lunar New Year through a whole school afternoon of RE. The children earnt red envelopes by remembering facts about Lunar New Year and loved making snakes, dragon puppets and lanterns to bring to a special assembly at the end of the afternoon.
