Personal Development at St Martin’s

At St Martin’s CE Primary School, personal development is woven through every aspect of school life. Our carefully planned and sequenced Personal Development Curriculum brings together the opportunities pupils receive within and beyond the academic curriculum throughout their time with us.

We want every child to develop the knowledge, character and confidence they need to flourish. Through a wide range of purposeful experiences, pupils learn how to build positive relationships, care for their physical and emotional wellbeing, understand and respect different people and cultures, and contribute positively to their community and the wider world.

Our provision reflects the needs of our pupils and our diverse school community. We actively remove barriers so that all children, including pupils with SEND, those learning English as an additional language and those who may have fewer opportunities beyond school, can participate fully. Pupils are encouraged to discover their interests and talents while developing resilience, independence, aspiration and the courage to try new things.

The Intent of our Personal Development Curriculum

Every person, every opportunity, every day

Our curriculum is structured using the 5 Ways of Wellbeing:

These five areas provide a coherent structure through which pupils develop personally, socially, morally, spiritually and culturally. They help ensure that every child has meaningful opportunities to build confidence, develop a strong sense of belonging and acquire the knowledge and qualities needed to thrive.
